Respected Health & Wellness Professionals
Agree - Distilled water is the best water to drink.
What do Doctors say? Most respected Health and
Wellness Doctors say that it is important to drink pure water, and the
purest water you can get is distilled water.
However, there are a
very few unknowledgeable "doctors" who say that distilled water is
actually "bad" for you. Shame on them! People rely on doctors to tell the
truth, especially about what is or is not good for them. These few
doctors, (actually only a couple), spread their bad advice over the
Internet which is causing many people to forgo the very real and important
health benefits of drinking pure distilled water, and are actually
becoming LESS healthy as a result!
There is no disagreement that
distilled water is the purest water available. Most of the controversy
concerns minerals. But the actual facts are well documented. Simply
stated, we get over 95% of the good minerals our bodies need from the
FOODS WE EAT and NOT THE WATER WE DRINK. Also most of the minerals in water
are INORGANIC and are not beneficial for our bodies. Good, ORGANIC
minerals come from nutritious foods or good quality organic mineral
supplements, not water.
But don't take our word for it. Read what
Nationally Respected Doctors have to say below.
Dr. Andrew
Weil: "The process of distillation kills and removes virtually
all bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, and other organic and inorganic
contaminants. Once distilled, the water is as pure as water can reasonably
be. While it's true that distillation removes minerals as it eliminates
various other contaminants from water, I don't feel this is a problem. We
get our minerals from food, not water. As far as acidity goes, distilled
water is close to a neutral pH and has no effect on the body's acid/base
balance. Distilled water is safe to drink, and the kind of water I use
myself."
"For reasons I don't understand, any number of myths
-
some quite extreme - have grown up over the years about distilled water. A
quick Internet search today will take you to sites that put forth such
views as "distilled water leads to early death." Nonsense. One claim holds
that distillation removes all of water's beneficial minerals. While it's
true that distillation removes minerals as well as various contaminants
from water, we don't know that the human body can readily absorb minerals
from water. We get our minerals from food, not water. By one
manufacturer's estimate, you would have to drink 676 eight- ounce glasses
of tap water in Boston to reach the RDA for calcium."
"…as to
whether distilled water leaches minerals out of the body reflects another
persistent myth. While pure water helps to remove minerals from the body
that cells have eliminated or not used, it does not "leach" out minerals
that have become part of your body's cell structure. Neither does
distilled water cause your teeth to deteriorate, a false claim made by a
filter manufacturer looking to boost sales. As far as acidity goes,
distilled water is close to a neutral pH and has no effect on the body's
acid/base balance. I hope I've set your mind at ease. Distilled water not
only isn't dangerous, it's the purest form of water. It's also the kind of
water I drink."
Dr. Allen E. Banik: 'The Choice Is
Clear' "Distilled water is water which has been turned into vapor, so
that all its impurities are left behind. Then, by condensing, it is turned
back to pure water. It is the only water which is pure - the only water
free from all impurities". "The only minerals that the body can utilize
are the organic minerals. All other types of minerals are foreign
substances to the body and must be eliminated. Distilled water is the only
water that can be taken into the body without damage to the tissues."
"Distilled water is the only water which is pure - the only water free
from all impurities."
Dr. Paul C. Bragg N.D., Ph.D. & Dr.
Patricia Bragg N.D., Ph.D. 'Water - The Shocking Truth That
Can Save Your Life!' "Distilled water is the world's best and purest
water!" "People who ingest a sufficient amount of the right kinds of
liquids (distilled water, fresh fruits and vegetables and their juices)
have better body functioning and circulation overall, which are most
important to Super Health and Long Life." "The greatest damage done by
inorganic minerals - plus waxy cholesterol and salt - is to the small
arteries and other blood vessels of the brain (75% water). Hardening of
the arteries and calcification of blood vessels starts on the day you
start taking inorganic chemicals and minerals from the tap water into your
bodies." "Again, let me state empathetically that, in my opinion, the
misery of arthritis is caused by hard water saturated with inorganic
minerals and an unbalanced diet, forming acid crystals in the moveable
joints, plus inactivity of the body in general." "Pure distilled water
is truly God's greatest gift to us, a source of life and health."
Dr. David C. Kennedy, D.D.S.: 'How to Save Your Teeth:
Toxic-Free Preventive Dentistry' "Even tap water invariably contains a
variety of poisons such as chlorine, chloramines, asbestos, pesticides,
fluoride, copper, mercury, and lead. The best way to remove all these
contaminants is by distilling."
Dr. Peter A. Lodewick, M.D.:
'A Diabetic Doctor Looks at Diabetes' "The only type of water that
seems to be fit for consumption is distilled water, which is water that is
absolutely free of any minerals or chemicals. Distilled water is made pure
by first being heated to the point of vaporization, so that all of the
'impurities' are left behind. Then, the water vapor is condensed. The
process results in water that is in its purest form. Distillation is the
single most effective method of water purification."
Dr.
Charles Mayo of the Mayo Clinic: "Water hardness (inorganic
minerals in solution) is the underlying cause of many, if not all, of the
diseases resulting from poisons in the intestinal tract. These (hard
minerals) pass from the intestinal walls and get into the lymphatic
system, which delivers all of its products to the blood, which in turn,
distributes to all parts of the body. This is the cause of much human
disease."
Dr. Robert D. Willix, Jr.: 'Maximum
Health' "If you decide on bottled water, make sure it's distilled,
(however), in the long run you'll save money if you clean your water at
home. It's more convenient than hauling gallon jugs from the store. The
'gold standard' for purifying your water is a system that distills your
water and filters it. You have the comfort of knowing there is no
chlorine, fluoride, bacteria, viruses, pesticides, or lead. You get
nothing but H2O."
Organizations: American Medical
Association: "The body's need for minerals is largely met
through foods, not drinking water."
Water Quality
Association: WQA Brochure #S20 - "Discover Distilled Water"
"…the amounts of minerals found in water are insignificant when compared
to those found in the foods we eat. Because tap water varies substantially
in the amount and proportion of mineral content, the most reliable source
of those essential mineral nutrients come from a normal daily diet
consisting of fish, meat and vegetables."
California
Department of Consumer Affairs - Drinking Water Report - July,
1976 "Highly mineralized water has been associated with the formation
of (kidney) stones in the urinary system".
Frank N.
Hepburn; Chief, Nutrient Data Research Branch United States Department
of Agriculture, Consumer Nutrition Division "There is nothing
about distilled water that would make it harmful for the body. It may be
helpful to remember that distilled water is the only water available for
crews of Naval vessels at sea."
Raymond H. Bishop, Jr. M.D.
Major General, Commander - Medical Corps. Department of the Army, U.S.
Army Health Services Command; "Distilled water is safe to
drink and should have no adverse effects on your health. Distillation
merely removes most of the dissolved materials, which are found in all
natural waters."
The Great Book of Health Secrets: 1991
Boardroom Reports Inc. "The best system to purify water is
distillation, which boils the water into steam to kill organisms and also
remove impurities"
Other Noted Professionals: Louis
Pasteur: "We drink 90 percent of our illnesses."
Harvey & Marilyn Diamond: 'Fit For Life II: Living Health'
"Distillation provides us with the purest water obtainable… by all means make the smart choice in the type of water you drink.
There should only be one choice - PURE! And pure means distilled."
Dr. John Yiamoyuiannis, Ph.D.: 'Fluoride: The Aging Factor'
"The home distiller is the best method and also the best way
to get distilled water. It is the only reliable home water purification
for taking fluoride out of the water."
Dave Ellis, Director
of Performance Nutrition, University of Nebraska Athletic Department
"Since we started using distilled water, our athletes have
been drinking more. We can only attribute that to the fresh, clean taste…"
Nick Pavlica, Director, H2o Labs, Ltd. I have been
drinking distilled water since 1981, almost half of my life, and given the
choice, would not drink any other type of water. I recommend distilled
water to all my friends and relatives and would not do so if I didn't
think it is one of the very healthiest things a person can do. After a
full body scan, the doctor told me that I have the cleanest arteries of
anyone he has examined of my age. And I have never had a broken bone in my
body. (Contrary to quack assertions that calcium and other minerals are
"leached" from the body!) Proof enough for me. Now prove it to yourself.
